DNA Computing

by Steve Hernandez on Jun.19, 2007, under Technology

I believe DNA computing to be the next leap technologically.  Why?  Well, there are a few reasons.  The first and most fundemental is that man mimics nature, almost always.  We do this because, nature works and had 3 million years (for most organisms, usually more) to figure out how to make the device (organism) perfect for its environment.  Cockroaches are a great example, around for some 248 million years (don’t quote me on that) and are perfectly suited for almost all environments and are found everywhere in the world.  Except for the artic, of course.  So, all living things encode information into units of DNA, so why can’t we?  In my opinion this seems perfect, especially since we’re running out of space on our magnetic platters (we’re reaching the finite limit in which you make a platter sector so small that the magnetic field induced to change it’s value changes the surrounding values as well).  The remarkable thing is that DNA being so small, can hold rediculous amounts of data.

I did a research paper a few years ago regarding this topic and for some reason it came to mind.  I will dig it up to have some discussion.
