IT’s role in business

I will write a short posting describing IT’s role in business after a conversation with a co-worker today. Interesting to say the least…
It really opened my eyes and put things in perspective.
So basically, here’s the deal. Information Technology has infultraited all levels of organizations, corporations and otherwise. In this day and age, without technology (particularly IT) a company can’t function. Without an internet connection companies just sit there waiting for IT [guys] to fix it. Computer’s down, take a break, because you can’t get anything accomplished without it. So being in the IT department deserves some respect from management and other employees, because quite frankly (and any other IT professional can vouch for this) a IT professional can easily bring down a company with a simple mouse click, or even pulling a single cable. That’s power… CEO’s can’t even completely stop business in an instance like that, purposefully or not. But that’s all besides the point, because since IT is in every level of a corporation, the tech essentially works for every employee in the company, from the CEO to the intern. This makes every employee in the company the boss of you (the tech that is), whether you like it, appreciate it, or not. If the intern thinks you gave them bad service, they are in their right to complain to your boss, their boss, or your boss’ boss. Sad but true. Since techs, admins and engineers (less for engineers) have to interact with their fellow employees, there exists a certain amount of customer service that must [should] exist.
Just a little blurb of what transpired today and my thoughts. *shrug*
